Rutherglen Wine Show Success

Monday, October 15, 2007

It is all smiles at the winery this week having just enjoyed one of our most successful outings at the Rutherglen Wine Show in some years.

We were awarded a total of four trophies, three gold medals, three silver and twelve bronze from 22 wines entered.

The absolute standout was our 2006 Limited Release Viognier, which was awarded a gold medal and two very significant trophies

This is in fact the first time a Viognier has been awarded a trophy at the Rutherglen Wine Show, a fact Malcolm and Colin are justifiably proud of.

We have what might be the oldest plantings of Viognier in the country; a trial row of just fifty vines that Malcolm planted in his nursery block back in the late sixties. When Viognier started to gain a small following in Australia in the late nineties the decision was made to take cuttings from the trial block and expand the vineyard. That decision now looks well and truly vindicated, and the future for Viognier in Rutherglen looks incredibly bright

The other additions to the trophy cabinet were two of the major fortified awards

The breadth of trophy winning wines prove the diversity in wine styles that are suited to the Rutherglen terroir and endorses Campbells reputation for producing benchmark Rutherglen wines.
