Joint Owner and Director,
Col is the fourth generation Campbell winemaker. After graduating from South Australia’s Roseworthy College, he together with his brother Malcolm, seized the opportunity to expand the family vineyards and winery.
Col has been unwavering in his commitment to quality and sets a high standard for the winemaking team. Bobbie Burns Shiraz and The Barkly Durif are wines very dear to his heart.
As chair of the Muscat of Rutherglen Network, Colin’s lifelong passion was to see Rutherglen Muscat recognized as the unique wine of Australia. A highlight was the recognition of their rare Rutherglen Muscat, The Merchant Prince, being the first Australian wine to be awarded the perfect score by highly respected New York based Wine Spectator magazine.
Colin is tenacious in his endeavours for the good of the Australian wine industry and is on various industry groups. He chaired the Fortified Sustainability Project responsible for developing new names for Sherry and Tokay and a relaunch strategy for Australian fortified wines.
Colin and his wife Prue have been a great team over the years and now much to their delight and pride, their three daughters Jane, Susie and Jules are now all contributing their skills at Campbells.
The wine industry takes Col and Prue far and wide but there is always time made for testing out the ski runs, riding the waves at their favourite surf beaches or just heading into the nearby high country to explore new tracks. A pastime enjoyed greatly with their children and grandchildren whenever possible.
