2009 The Sixties Block

First planted by my brother Malcolm in the early 1960’s, our Sixties Block contains a single row of many obscure and interesting grape varieties. Today this mature vineyard produces small quantities of intensely flavoured fruit, from which we select the very best for this intriguing blend. Colin Campbell

Tasting Notes
A fragrant nose of black cherry, greengage plum, dried herbs and subtle savoury nuances. Impressive fruit intensity up front with dark plum, currant and cherry fruit all prominent. Savoury notes emerge through the mid palate, with tobacco leaf, olive wood and ground coffee bean all adding interest. As is our aim with this wine texture is a feature, with supple fruit tannins, slightly charry oak and soft acids all woven together seamlessly.

Winemaking
Fruit was harvested in March and April and fermented on skins for 7 days. The wine then spent 12 months in one, two and three year old French and American oak prior to bottling.

Vintage Summary
A wine that drinks well from release, though we believe it will continue to come together well over the next 5-6 years. Enjoy with simple flavorsome dishes such as veal meatballs in putanesca sauce or cacciatore sausage.
