Amélie 2016

Tasting Notes

Deep purple with radiant violet hues.  Fragrant and inviting fruit characters of plum, red cherry and raspberry combine with violets and hints of ground cinnamon.  A dark fruit compote of plum, cherry and blackberry fill the palate with hints of raspberry conserve and confectionary delights. A touch of natural fruit sweetness was preserved to support the soft and silky tannins.

Winemaking

The fruit was chilled at crushing to provide 3 days cold maceration before inoculation with an aromatic yeast strain. Fermentation proceeded in a mix of open and closed fermenters for 6 days before pressing directly to stainless steel tanks. Fermentation was arrested with a small amount of residual sugar and prepared immediately for bottling.

Cellaring

Our Amélie is a wine to enjoy in its youth, when the natural berry characters of the Merlot grape are at their best. We recommend to serve Amelie chilled. It is a versatile food wine, the perfect partner to wood fired pizza, or spicy Indian fare.

"We have specifically chosen Merlot to produce this style of wine because it displays luscious berry fruit characters and is naturally low in tannin. These characters make our Amélie the perfect wine for those starting their journey into red wine."  Colin Campbell
