The Barkly Durif 1998

Tasting Notes

Intense and deep crimson red.  Intense blackberry, blood plum and bitter chocolate notes, backed by vanilla, coconut husk and sweet ground spices. A wine of considerable richness in the mouth with dark plum, prune and cocoa characters up-front. Complex secondary characters of new leather, licorice and aniseed have developed through the mid palate, whilst ripe chewy fruit tannins continue to provide structure.

Winemaking

Selected parcels of premium fruit fermented on skins, then aged in a combination of American and French oak barrels and puncheons for 18 months.

Cellaring

A wine of immense appeal to be enjoyed over the coming years with flavoursome slow cooked dishes.
