Meet Ian!
1. What is your job title?
Winery Operations Manager
2. Please briefly describe your role?
During vintage, I manage the planning the sampling of grapes in the vineyard, tasting juice development, coordinating harvest decisions with vineyard staff and volumes required with all departments, allocation of fruit to ferment tanks, yeast choices and other additions, ferment management decisions, malolactic ferment control, blending and quality adjustments.
Outside of vintage, these decisions continue to influence the quality of the final product, especially maturation choices of oak barrels, volume control, technical analysis, tasting, as well as blending decisions.
3. How long have you worked at Campbells?
18 years
4. What do you love about your work?
Variety. Transformation of raw product to quality, high quality consumer goods, primary production on the land, followed by technical winemaking then integrated sales through to the end consumer.
5. Favourite Campbells Wine and why?
Sixties Block. Our history on that site. Making use of obscure varieties, using blending decisions and winemaking techniques to create a velvet palate of rich dark fruit, spice and oak.
6. Hobby outside of work?
I’m a soccer tragic.
