DESCRIPTION

Tasting Notes

Deep, dark red, dense. Rich, lifted dark plum fruit, supporting by notes of oak char.

Wine Making

Select parcels of premium fruit were fermented on skins in closed fermenters for ten days and aged in new to 3 year old French puncheons for 27 months.

Cellaring

The 2016 release is a great example of what we strive to achieve with this iconic Rutherglen variety. A rich and powerful wine that is structured, balanced and maintains a certain elegance. With this in mind the wine will reward cellaring for 10+ years. As this wine has been stored under screwcap we recommend decanting on opening to allow the wine to fully open up. Enjoy as a young wine with a juicy fillet of beef, or as a mature wine with slow cooked lamb or beef dishes.

The Grapes: Durif from 40 year old vines in our Silverburn vineyard.
Date Tasted: January 2020
Alcohol: 15.5%

Fresh, rich fruit, supple palate, balanced. Nice integrated oak. A powerful wine with a presence - grippy dry finish with good fruit and a smart clean finish.
