The 2021 Bobbie Burns Shiraz is our 52nd vintage of our famous shiraz that Colin Campbell first created in 1971.
We have continued to fine tune this iconic wine over the years maintaining the same approachable style of full flavoured ripe berry and plum fruit with a light touch of supportive French oak.
“WHILST THERE ARE ALWAYS VINTAGE VARIATIONS DUE TO PREVAILING SEASONAL WEATHER PATTERNS, THE CONSISTENCY OF BOBBIE REMAINS TRUE TO STYLE AND CHARACTER.”
Campbells have 15 separate blocks of Shiraz plantings with different aged vines in each block, clones, aspect, trellis type, soils, and irrigation regimes.
In the winery we keep all batches separate and treat them differently to emphasise their strong points using cold soaks, different yeast strains, ferment temperatures, cap management and extended maceration on each block as suits. Each batch will then spend between 12 and 21 months in oak barrels, from different French coopers, toast levels, age and grain type to further develop their strengths. This then allows us to target the Bobbie Burns Shiraz house style using different portions of each batch to maximise the flavour, mouthfeel and balance of the finished blend, whilst aiming to set a new benchmark for Bobbie Burns quality each year.
On the tasting bench we work through 100+ different combinations each vintage until we are all agreed that we have the style correct – we then release the next vintage of Bobbie Burns Shiraz.
