Welcome to the Autumn edition of our Cellar Club News. We hope you have had a great start to 2025!
This year marks our 155th anniversary, which we are incredibly proud of and excited to celebrate with you. We will be celebrating throughout the year during our many events.
Meanwhile the past few months have been action packed at Campbells!
We have welcomed Nick, our Assistant Winemaker, who is eagerly awaiting his first vintage with Campbells and Izaac, our Maintenance Manager, who is also looking forward to vintage and hoping for zero breakdowns!
Finally, our new Events Coordinator, Olivia, has returned to the Rutherglen region after living and working in Melbourne. Olivia has a big year planned with our many events and 155th celebrations.
With harvest upon us we can look back and reflect on the recent awards our wines have secured. We were thrilled to hear our Merchant Price Rare Rutherglen Muscat had received a gold medal and the winner’s trophy at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in the fortified wine category.
Additionally, in ‘The Drinks Issue’ of The Weekend Australian Magazine, our Merchant Price Rare Rutherglen Muscat made the Top 100 list and was awarded 98 points. The Sixties Block 2021 has been selected as part of the Halliday Wine Companion Top 100 Wines 2024 – a fantastic result for a wine that flies under the radar and is such a delicious blend of Portuguese and Spanish varieties.
We are so proud of our entire team who played a role in making these fantastic results possible.
In other news, Campbells Wines has been certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia for our vineyard and winery practices. We are delighted to have achieved this status and thank all involved in the rigorous process. Sustainability has been a key driver for our winery and vineyard over the last 155 years to ensure we are best practice in all that we do. Our soil and vineyards are extremely valuable to us and are the beginning of our wine journey.
Our wines have also featured in several media stories recently, including the Herald Sun for our Shiraz Durif 2021 and Amelie!
Late last year, our brand-new Shiraz Durif Cabernet 2022 rolled down our bottling line – this wine is 80 percent Shiraz, 15 percent Durif and five percent Cabernets. Cabernets adds a velvety finish to what is one of our well known fantastic all-round reds. This wine replaces our Shiraz Durif as it is currently known. Packaged with a brand-new label, the Shiraz Durif Cabernet 2022 will be released this Autumn.
Finally, congratulations to Bert and Lizzie Campbell, Jane’s Blue Heelers, who star on the front cover of the latest edition of Wine Dogs Australia! We have the brand-new Wine Dogs Australia book available for purchase – a fun book to browse through.
We hope to see you at Campbells and our events throughout 2025.
Please enjoy the Campbells Rutherglen Muscat Affogato recipe by our in-house, award-winning chef and Assistant Winemaker, Nick Gardner.
Best wishes,
Jane and Jules Campbell
