As our harvest comes to a close for vintage 2025, we would like to thank our vineyard and winemaking teams for all their amazing work, especially for the early morning starts.
It’s been an eventful six weeks – storms, warm days and nights, heavy dews as Autumn steps in and the arrival of baby Cooper to the @campbellswines family, the newborn son of our Machinery Operator, Tanner. Congratulations!
This year our fruit quality is right up there with some intense flavours and characteristics – we have certainly experienced a traditional Rutherglen continental climate. Warm and dry summer days ensure healthy vines and grapes. 🍇

In 1870, Scotsman and founder of @campbellswines, John Campbell, planted Shiraz in our Bobbie Burns vineyard.
Today our Bobbie Burns Shiraz is a Rutherglen icon and our flagship wine.
Our Bobbie Burns Shiraz is the wine to take and enjoy anywhere, anytime and it will match any dish.
The palate has ripe berries with hints of blackberry and clove and is beautifully balanced with layers of fine dry tannins.

Campbells Wines was founded by Scotsman John Campbell, who left the goldfields on the advice of the first winegrowers of Rutherglen.
Now 155 years later, the winery he established is run for the first time by two women, sisters, Jane and Julie Campbell, the fifth generation.
Jane is our Managing Director who oversees the company, working directly with the Campbells team, and Jules is our Chief Winemaker and custodian of the Campbells brand.
“Together, Jules and I have a shared vision to champion the Rutherglen region by leading the way with outstanding wines, innovative and progressive practices and providing an authentic winery experience,” said Jane.

@campbellswines has been certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia for our vineyard and winery practices.
We are delighted to have achieved this status and thank all involved in the rigorous process.
Sustainability has been a key driver for our winery and vineyard over the last 155 years to ensure we are best practice in all that we do.
Our soil and vineyards are extremely valuable to us and are the beginning of our wine journey.

Foot treading has not gone out of style at Campbells, this week our team members Nick and Tanner gently crushed the berries in the traditional manner!
The human foot, with its soft, even pressure, is ideal for gently breaking the grape skins without damaging the seeds – we will have to see whether that adds to the texture on the palate!

The first fortnight of vintage 2025 has been eventful!
After a hot spell, our early white varieties ripened quickly. So, we started our harvest on the 5th February, sending grape harvester, Lucy III, out with the vineyard crew to bring in 2 tonnes of Gewurztraminer and 8.5 tonnes of Chardonnay, a nice base wine for our next Sparkling White.
All was going well until a wild storm hit Rutherglen at 12.30pm on the 5th, knocking out the power.
The Limited Release Chardonnay (LRC) was safely in tank, but the Moscato was still in the press, and with no power we couldn’t pump, rotate, or empty the press. Fortunately, we were part way through the process. After a 15-hour power outage we were able to re-start our cooling system and empty the press the following day.
The focus for the second week was to harvest the Marsanne, Riesling, Chardonnay, plus an experimental batch.
Riesling looks good this year, a healthy canopy and yield. The small Chardonnay pick will top up our core range stocks.
The Marsanne was handpicked at All Saints and pressed through our new Europress. We will keep this juice cold until the Roussanne and Viognier portions are ready.
Sampling of our reds blocks suggest the flavour and sugar development are lagging behind the acid profile. So, we will continue to monitor progress before picking the first reds.

The Bobbie Burns Shiraz 2023 was bottled yesterday, ready for our exclusive Cellar Club Member only release in April!
This wine will be officially released at our Bobbie Burns Dinner on Saturday May 17th.
This is the 54th consecutive vintage of the Bobbie and we look forward to enjoying a glass or two!
Our 2023 vintage is comprised of youthful, vibrant plummy fruit, yet still has the depth, structure and impact we would expect from a Bobbie Burns Shiraz, which will go the distance.
Fruit comes from nine of our separate Shiraz blocks, each yielding something special, adding synergy to the overall volume, carefully matured in new and used French puncheons for two years.
Our 54th consecutive Bobbie Burns Shiraz offers a great Rutherglen experience, again!
