As I write this, it’s a chilly mix of rain and snow outside—a far cry from the bright, invigorating days of Spring that we are all eagerly awaiting. The thought of crisp air and sparkling sunshine is keeping spirits high as we stay busy in the vineyards and winery.
We have been hard at work with several new grafting’s, carefully training young vines up to the wire. These small, grafted blocks allow us to make the most of our healthy, resilient rootstocks, tailored to support the varieties we value most. We have taken cuttings from our much-loved Grahams vineyard to reinforce our Sixties Block, expand our Trebbiano plantings, and bolster our Shiraz. Brand new varieties Marsanne and Grenache, are a welcome addition to our vineyard and we look forward to them coming on board potentially as single varietal wines in the future. We have also established a new nursery block to safeguard our broad clonal selection for future needs.
With Spring approaching, we’re preparing our frost protection systems to shield those tender new shoots from our famously cold mornings. Meanwhile, this winter rain is helping to ensure our soil profiles are replenishing, giving our vines the strong foundation they need for the season ahead.
In other news, we are delighted to announce that Campbells Wines has been named one of The Real Review Top Wineries of Australia 2025. Our winery earned this coveted spot among the best in Australia. This is a significant achievement reflecting the immense talent, hard work and dedication of our entire team.
We are especially excited to be releasing a second edition of our HPS this year. The initial 2019 vintage was a cracker (I still have one cheeky bottle tucked away in my cellar), and while it is always a challenge to follow a favourite, the 2024 vintage has shown all the right signs. We believe it more than lives up to the reputation set.
Spring is a wonderful time to come and visit us. Choose a sunny day and enjoy the vineyard at its most pristine, everything looks tidy with pruned vines and new shoots. Our winemaking team also has a little more time to chat, and as the night’s stay cool, there’s no better excuse than to enjoy a glass of our Muscat or Topaque by the fire.
