Winery Operations Manager, Ian Diver, recently gave us his insight into his hopes and dreams for Vintage 2018. Ever optimistic about the harvest to come, he’s excited about what the vines are showing us at this stage, and can’t wait to get things going.
What are your hopes for Vintage 2018?
That everything will run smoothly; the grapes will be in perfect condition, yield and quality high, no rain… essentially, wines that make themselves! Completely unrealistic… but that’s what we’ve planned for, so it’s how we respond to the little hiccups that will determine how successful 2018 is.
What are the standout wines from Vintage 2017?
In whites, it has to be our new blend of Marsanne Viognier Roussanne. We spent a lot of effort coaxing the flavour balance for this wine, and it’s paid off. For reds, we have a base blend of Bobbie Burns which already looks to have great balance and elegance.
What excites you most about the upcoming vintage?
The new Rosé, timing is so crucial when it comes to the picking, pressing and ferment. It goes to bottle early, so you can see the result of your work quickly.
